EV Charge Points for the Home

If you own an electric vehicle, or are thinking of buying one, then installing an EV home charge point makes perfect sense, giving you total control over when you charge your car.

By having an EV home charge point you will be able to plug in at your own convenience rather than relying on public charging points. Also, when choosing an installer to fit your electric charging point, it’s important to find someone who fully understands how to link it to other potential renewable energy source systems in order to maximise efficiency.

How does an electric car charger work?

Electric vehicles are powered by batteries and require a charging point to recharge them. An EV charging point pumps electricity into the batteries as quickly as possible while monitoring them to avoid any potential damage during the process.

Charging time depends on the size of the battery and the speed of the charging point. A typical electric car, such as a Nissan LEAF 30kWh, would take four hours to charge from empty with a 7kW home charging point.

Can you have an EV charge point installed in your home?

Yes. Having an EV charge point installed in your home is the best method to charge your electric vehicle as you can charge it overnight, making it far more practical as well as cost effective.

How is an electric car charger installed?

Depending on your power supply and where you park your vehicle, an installer will be able to determine the best location for your EV charger point.

Your installer will position and fix the charger by drilling and clipping the cable to the wall. Your electricity supply will be briefly turned off while the charger is connected to the main power supply. Final safety tests will be carried out and then the qualified installer will give you a full demonstration of how to operate your new charger point.
